Editorial Standards & Disclaimer

Last updated: April 6, 2026

Material Truths is committed to evidence-based, independent investigation of consumer product claims. This page outlines our editorial standards, sourcing practices, and important disclaimers.

Editorial Standards

Evidence first. Every factual claim in a Material Truths investigation is sourced to publicly available primary documentation, including:

  • United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) records
  • Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filings and enforcement actions
  • National Advertising Division (NAD) decisions
  • Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings
  • Peer-reviewed academic research
  • Brand websites, marketing materials, and product listings as published by the brands themselves
  • Court filings in publicly accessible databases

We do not rely on rumors, anonymous tips alone, leaked confidential documents, or unverified secondhand reports.

Verification. Before publication, we verify each claim against its primary source. We capture screenshots and maintain documentation of every cited fact.

Distinguishing facts from opinions. Our investigations clearly separate verifiable facts from analysis and opinion. When we describe a product claim as exaggerated, misleading, or unsubstantiated, we anchor that characterization to specific verifiable evidence and explain our reasoning.

Right of response. Where appropriate and feasible, we contact brands before publication to give them an opportunity to respond. We publish responses we receive.

Corrections. If we discover that we have published inaccurate information, we will correct it promptly and note the correction publicly.

What We Are and What We Are Not

We are an independent publication. Material Truths has no affiliation with any of the brands or companies we cover.

We are not lawyers. Our investigations may discuss legal frameworks, regulations, and enforcement actions, but our content is not legal advice. We cannot determine whether any specific marketing claim, business practice, or product violates the law. That determination is for courts, regulators, and qualified legal professionals.

We are not doctors or scientists. Where we discuss scientific claims, we cite peer-reviewed research and regulatory positions. We do not provide medical advice, and our content should not be used as a substitute for consultation with qualified health professionals.

We are not financial advisors. Our investigations may discuss business practices, but nothing we publish is investment advice or a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any security.

We are not consumer reports. While we evaluate marketing claims, we do not perform laboratory testing of products. Our investigations focus on the gap between what brands claim and what publicly available evidence supports.

Disclaimer

The content published by Material Truths represents our analysis and opinions based on publicly available information at the time of publication. We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of our content.

Readers should conduct their own research and consult qualified professionals before making purchasing decisions, health decisions, financial decisions, or any other decisions based on our content. Material Truths is not liable for any decisions made or actions taken based on our content.

Where we identify a brand by name and discuss its marketing claims, our intent is commentary, criticism, and reporting in the public interest. Brand names, logos, and product images referenced in our investigations are used for identification purposes consistent with nominative fair use and are not intended to imply endorsement, affiliation, or sponsorship.

Use of AI in Production

Material Truths uses AI tools as part of our content production workflow, including AI-assisted research, AI-generated voiceover and avatar presentation in our videos, and AI-assisted editing. We disclose this openly because transparency is core to our editorial mission.

The investigative work, source verification, evidence selection, and editorial judgment behind our content is performed by humans. AI tools assist with production efficiency but do not replace our methodology or accountability.

Conflicts of Interest

We disclose any material conflicts of interest in our investigations. As of the date of this policy, Material Truths does not accept advertising, sponsorships, or paid product placements from brands we cover or could potentially cover.

We may receive revenue in the future through subscriptions, paid products, services, or other means. If we ever receive compensation that could create a perceived or actual conflict of interest with our editorial coverage, we will disclose it.
